Writers for Recovery (Bess O’Brian and Gary Lee Miller)

[vimeo id=”180181932″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

Founded in 2013 by Bess O’Brien and Gary Lee Miller, Writers for Recovery provides free writing workshops, public readings, and print and online publication for people recovering from or affected by addiction. An outgrowth of The Hungry Heart, O’Brien’s award-winning film about prescription opiate addiction, WFR offers workshops in community centers and correctional facilities across Vermont. We work using a system of short writing prompts, timed writing sessions, sharing, and discussion to help participants express themselves, share sobriety strategies, and form community around writing. For their visit to Bookstock, Bess and Gary will give a brief talk about Writers for Recovery, and how it helps Vermont communities to stem the tide of addiction. Following the talk, WFR participants will read from their first annual print anthology, One Imagined Word at a Time. After the reading, they will take questions from the audience. Writers for Recovery is presented by Kingdom County Productions. For more information, visit writersforrecovery.org.
