    Ukrainian Egg Decorating

    [vimeo id=”261139899″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

    20180214

Quoted from the Norman William’s Public Library

“Yes, you CAN make eggs like these! Come and learn how. Drop in on Wednesday afternoons and/or Saturday mornings. This will be ongoing through March.

Danelle Sims started making these eggs about 15 years ago and fell in love with the process. We will have plenty of white chicken eggs on hand, and all the supplies. If you have access to duck or goose eggs and would like to try your hand at a larger project, feel free to bring them along.

*Recommended for ages 12 and up. (We work with raw eggs and melt the wax over an open candle flame.)

Contact Danelle at the library for more information.

Ukrainian Easter Egg Decorating has been handed down through generations of the Ukrainian people. They are famous the world over for their colorful Easter Eggs (Pysanky). Over 2000 years ago, before the time of Christ, people decorated eggs believing that great powers were embodied in the egg. Eggs symbolized the release of the earth from the shackles of winter and the coming of spring with its promise of new hope, new life and prosperity. With the advent of Christianity, Easter eggs symbolize the Resurrection and a promise of eternal life. Legend has it that as long as pysanky are decorated, goodness will prevail over evil throughout the world. [excerpt from How to Decorate Beautiful Ukrainian Easter Eggs, by Luba Perchyshyn]”
